Rotate PDF

Scanned a document upside-down? Pulled a sideways page out of a multi-page scan? This free PDF rotator fixes it in seconds — directly in your browser, with no upload and no watermark. Rotate every page, or just the ones that need it. The rotation is saved into the file, so every PDF reader on every device will show it the right way up. No accounts, no queue, no limits.

How rotate pdf works

A PDF rotator permanently changes the orientation of one or more pages in a PDF file. Unlike a viewer's 'rotate view' button — which only changes what you see temporarily — a true rotator writes the new orientation into the PDF's page metadata. This tool uses pdf-lib running in your browser to update the rotation flag on the pages you choose, then re-saves the document. No content is re-rendered, so quality is preserved exactly.

What's inside Rotate PDF

100% client-side processing — your PDF never leaves your browser. Three rotation angles: 90°, 180°, 270° clockwise. Rotate every page or pick specific page ranges. Lossless — no re-rendering, no recompression. Preserves fonts, images, hyperlinks, bookmarks, and form fields. No watermarks, no ads, no sign-up. Works on mobile and desktop in any modern browser.

Rotate PDF workflow

When you drop a PDF, the tool parses it with pdf-lib and shows the page count. You pick an angle and an optional page-range expression. On click, the tool iterates the pages, and for each one in your range, it adds the chosen angle to the page's current rotation (modulo 360) — so the rotation is additive, not absolute. The file is then re-saved and offered as a download via a temporary in-browser blob URL. Nothing is sent to a server.

Real-world rotate pdf scenarios

Sideways scans — fix landscape pages that were scanned in portrait mode. Mixed-orientation scans — rotate just the few pages that ended up wrong while leaving the rest untouched. Upside-down receipts or invoices — flip them 180° to read normally. Mobile photo PDFs — rotate phone-captured documents that came out the wrong way. Imported faxes — correct the orientation of pages that went through a fax pipeline. Combined bundles — rotate the appendix pages of a report that were scanned in a different orientation.

Why pick Rotate PDF

Privacy first — most online rotators upload your file to a server. We don't. Rotation runs entirely in your browser, which matters for sensitive documents like contracts, IDs, or financial records. Speed — no upload, no queue. Most PDFs rotate in under a second. Permanent — unlike a viewer's rotate-view button, our rotation is written into the file. Lossless — page content is not touched at all. Free forever — no premium tier, no email gate.

Who Rotate PDF is for

Anyone scanning physical documents — receipts, contracts, IDs — that came out sideways or upside-down. Accountants and lawyers fixing mixed-orientation page bundles before sending. Students fixing phone-scanned class notes. Anyone who needs a PDF to display correctly in every viewer, not just their own.

Pro tips when you rotate pdf

Verify the rotated PDF in your usual reader before deleting the original. For mixed-rotation needs, run the tool twice with different page ranges — e.g. rotate pages 1-3 by 90°, then run again to rotate pages 7-9 by 270°. Use 180° for fully upside-down pages.

Rotate PDF — known limits

Rotation is clockwise only — for counter-clockwise, use 270° (equivalent to 90° CCW). Cannot rotate by arbitrary angles like 45°. Strong-password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked first using our PDF Password Remover.

rotate pdf FAQ

Is this PDF rotator really free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark, no limits. Rotate as many PDFs as you like.

Does it upload my file?

No. The entire rotation runs in your browser with pdf-lib. Your PDF never touches our servers — verify with DevTools → Network.

Will the rotation be permanent?

Yes. The new rotation is written into the PDF's page metadata, so every PDF viewer will display it the corrected way — not just temporarily.

Can I rotate only specific pages?

Yes. Use the page-range field (e.g. '1-3, 5, 8-10') to rotate just those pages. Leave the default range to rotate all pages.

Will rotation lose quality?

No. Pages are not re-rendered — we only update the rotation flag. Fonts, images, hyperlinks, and form fields remain pixel-perfect.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. Any modern mobile browser handles it. The output downloads as a normal PDF to your device's Downloads folder.

Is there a file size limit?

Up to 100MB per file. Larger files may work depending on your device's memory.

Can I undo a rotation?

Run the tool again with the inverse angle: 270° to undo 90°, 90° to undo 270°, 180° to undo 180°.
